Paul Caffrey has defended his troops and dismissed suggestions that Dublin lack discipline after Alan Brogan became the latest player to be sent off during last week's NFL Division Two encounter with Armagh.

Brogan was given a straight red card last Sunday and now faces a four-week suspension and misses their final Division Two fixture with Meath this Sunday.

Bryan Cullen and Mark Vaughan were also sent off during the recent clash with Monaghan. However, they were overshadowed by the head-butting incident involving Ray Boyne and Tommy Freeman in which Boyne, Dublin's statistician, picked up a four-month ban.

"If you look at the guys who have received reds, they are not you typical competitive players," said Caffrey at the launch of the VHI Cul Camps in Croke Park today.

"Anyone that knows football knows that Alan Brogan does not go out looking for trouble on a football field. He was only on the field eight or 10 minutes, so enough said about that.

"Mark Vaughan - clumsy tackle. It was a second yellow. Second yellows can happen to any player at any stage so I wouldn't be overindulging in terms of trying to set out Mark Vaughan and Alan Brogan to be hard men on football fields.

"Bryan Cullen's record at club and county level is exemplary so, no, I don't think that will stand up going forward," added the Dublin coach.

Meanwhile Derry are confident Gerard O'Kane will be fit for their NFL final against Kerry the weekend after next.

The former All-Ireland minor winner injured his knee in last Sunday's victory over Donegal, and was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital for tests. However, the injury is not as serious as initially feared and he is expected to be fit for the Division One decider.

"Our physio had a good look at him and believes he will be okay if he rests completely this week," Derry selector Martin Heaney explained. "If the final was this weekend, he would be in trouble but hopefully a week's full rest will do the trick."
