Údarás na Gaeltachta today announced that 80 jobs will be created at a new customer contact centre to be established at Dingle Business Park in Co Kerry.

Contact4, a Glasgow-based call centre operator, will invest close to €2 million in the centre. Recruitment will begin immediately and the customer contact centre will be up and running by the end of January 2005.

The new company, Teagmháil an Daingin, will offer telephone-based services such as telesales, customer satisfaction surveys and helpdesks.

Mr Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, chairman of Údarás na Gaeltachta, welcomed the new venture saying such ventures are "vitally important" for the future development of the Gaeltacht as high-quality employment will stem the flow of jobseekers by providing work closer to home.

He said Údarás na Gaeltachta has been successful in demonstrating new businesses can be successfully located outside of major urban areas.

Mr Ó Cuinneagáin also acknowledged Eircom's contribution in providing the necessary infrastructure to accommodate the call centre.
