Colombo - A suspected Tamil Tiger suicide bomber assassinated a Muslim politician contesting next week's parliamentary elections and killed 20 others in north-eastern Sri Lanka yesterday, police said.
A Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) candidate, Mr Baithullah, and the others were killed at a campaign rally in the town of Muttur, in Trincomalee, 160 miles north-east of the capital, Colombo. Mr Baithullah is the second candidate to be assassinated since parliament was dissolved on August 18th ahead of the October 10th elections.
