Jennifer Capriati overcame Yugoslavia's Jelena Dokic 6-4 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Pilot Pen WTA event last night.
In the day's other match, Belgium's Kim Clijsters lined up a last four clash with top seed Lindsay Davenport after comfortably beating seventh-seeded Nathalie Tauziat of France 6-2 6-2.
However, several hours of rain caused the postponement of the last remaining quarter-final match, a repeat of the Wimbledon final between defending champion Venus Williams and Justine Henin. That match will be played today, with the winner taking on Capriati in the evening session.
In her match, second seed Capriati fired 10 aces on her way to victory, and there was none of the hesitancy that saw her drop the first set to love in her previous round clash with Anke Huber.
"I was definitely more prepared from the first ball," said Capriati. "I went out there really warmed up and ready to play, and I definitely served a lot better today. I'm real happy about that."
Fourth seed Clijsters has found it a relief to get away from the spotlight she and Henin have been under in Belgium since both of them reached grand slam finals this summer.
Clijsters lost to Capriati in the French Open final, and Henin was beaten by Venus Williams at Wimbledon.
"It's been very hectic in Belgium, very busy" said Clijsters. "We had to go and meet the King and go to the government and go to some receptions.
"It wasn't easy because once I got home (from Wimbledon) I really needed some rest and I was really looking forward to coming to America so it could be a little bit more relaxed.
