A car bomb left outside a police station in Co Fermanagh could have caused considerable damage, it was confirmed today.
Residents of the village of Roslea had to be evacuated from their homes as British army bomb experts dealt with the device.
Police said the bomb containing 130lbs of explosives was crude but could have caused considerable damage and endangered the lives of people living in the area.
A local community centre was made available to residents who were forced to wait for hours before being allowed home.
A controlled explosion was carried out before midnight but the security alert continued until early this morning.
Forensic experts were due to return to the scene at first light.
The attempted bombing is believed to be the work of dissident republicans who have been active in border areas of Fermanagh in the past.
