A car packed with explosives blew up in the northern West Bank today, killing the Palestinian driver, the Israeli military said.

They said the car exploded about 100 metres from the barrier Israel is building inside the West Bank and near the Israeli town of Baka al-Gharbiya. There were no reports of casualties apart from the driver.

"It looks like he was trying to get into Israel," one military source said.

Palestinian factions have vowed revenge for Israel's killing of 14 militants from the Islamic Hamas group in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. Israel carried out that attack a week after back-to-back Hamas suicide bombings killed 16 Israelis aboard buses in the southern city of Beersheba.
