Fianna Fáil Louth County councillor James Carroll has been formally elected to Seanad Éireann.
Mr Carroll, from Monasterboice, Drogheda, fills the vacancy on the administrative panel created by the death of Senator Tony Kett in April.
Mr Carroll, a qualified lawyer who works as parliamentary assistant to Fianna Fáil Cavan-Monaghan TD Margaret Conlon, was elected to Louth County Council in June.
