An axe and a sledgehammer were used by a 16-year-old Co Tyrone boy to damage 11 cars on a Dungannon housing estate at the weekend, a special sitting of Cookstown Juvenile Court heard yesterday.

The teenager was remanded in custody until Friday charged with causing more than £2,500 damage to the vehicles at Lisnahull Gardens.

An RUC inspector told the court that the windscreens of the cars had been smashed and the tyres slashed. He said that the boy had previous convictions and had just been released from a young offenders' centre.

Defence solicitor Mr Christopher Mallon said the boy had attended a nightclub earlier and he believed his drinks had been spiked.
