England's Paul Casey has been named the winner of the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award on the European tour.

Casey succeeds Ian Poulter, whom he partners in the World Cup in Japan starting on Thursday.

The 24-year-old did not make his tour debut until the Benson and Hedges International Open at The Belfry in May, finishing 12th. He then came second in the Great North Open and in August won the Scottish PGA championship.

He was even considered by Sam Torrance for a Ryder Cup wild card and on Sunday finished the Order of Merit season in 22nd place with £470,000 sterling.
