Cathy Freeman's coach today denied that the Olympic and world 400m champion had turned her back on athletics.
Freeman went into self-imposed exile last month but her coach Peter Fortune is convinced she will begin training again in October to prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002.
"I am hopeful she will want to come back and really get back into training and continue to excite people as she has done for the last few years," he said.
Fortune believes the 28-year-old is likely to make an attempt at another 200m-400m double but added that she might want to try another event to motivate herself.
