Kilkenny hurlers dominate the nominations for the 2006 All Stars awards, with 13 nominations in total for the side that secured the county league title, the Leinster title and the All-Ireland. Defeated All-Ireland finalists Cork have 11 players nominated in a selection that shows representatives from nine counties.

A notable omission, however, is Cork's talismanic Seán Óg Ó hAilpín .

Kilkenny forward Henry Shefflin is in line for his sixth award, while seeking his first is young Laois starlet James Young, who is nominated at half forward.

Kilkenny's Tommy Walsh, who has won awards as a defender, midfielder and forward, is once again nominated in the defence.
