Rehab Lotteries yesterday called for an independent review of the National Lottery's impact on charities. Mr John McGuire, Rehab Lotteries, chief executive, disputed the findings of a report recently commissioned by the National Lottery that its activities had, had no negative effect on charity fund raising.
Three per cent of the money spent with the National Lottery, would flow to charitable donations if it did not exist, according to the report, and this would amount to only £3 million. Mr McGuire believed the true figure was £20 million to £30 million.
He claimed yesterday that the National Lottery held 97 per cent of the lottery market and was attempting to squeeze out weaker competitors.
