China has named Hong Kong Chief Secretary Donald Tsang as the city's acting leader following the resignation last week of Tung Chee-hwa.
Tung Chee-hwa, resigned this week and today became a senior adviser to China's parliament in a face-saving promotion that allowed the unpopular leader to make a graceful exit.
Tsang, whose British knighthood does not endear him to Beijing loyalists in Hong Kong, will have to walk a fine line between winning China's trust and coping with public demands at home for political reform.
