Maputo - President Joaquim Chissano was expected to be returned to office in an election yesterday but faced the loss of his parliamentary majority to former rebel chief, Mr Afonso Dhlakama. Mr Chissano was expected to beat Mr Dhlakama in the second multi-party presidential poll since the end of a 16year civil war in 1992, but the ruling Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) faced a serious opposition challenge in parliament.
