New Delhi - Tens of thousands of Christians yesterday launched a day of protest against what church leaders say is the most concerted campaign of persecution in the 50 years since India became independent, which has closed schools and health clinics, and seen mass rallies.
In Delhi, church leaders said the authorities and police had failed to protect their community - just 23 million people - from attacks by Hindu extremist groups allied to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
