The leaders of Ireland's four main churches met the British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, at Downing Street yesterday to discuss the "healing of hurts" in Northern Ireland.
The Catholic Archbishop of Armagh, Dr Sean Brady, the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh, Dr Robin Eames, the President of the Methodist Church, the Rev Harold Good and the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Dr Alastair Dunlop, spent over an hour with the Prime Minister and the Northern Ireland Secretary, Dr John Reid.
After the meeting, which was described by Downing Street as a constructive "listening exercise," Dr Dunlop said there was a "legacy of lawlessness" in Northern Ireland and all the churches were urging people to move beyond that and work for the peace process.
