The Bishops Appeal, which is the Church of Ireland's principal vehicle for assisting the developing world, has made another series of allocations.

Some 24 applications were considered but only £40,000 was available for distribution, of which £10,000 was sent to Turkey and £8,000 to Kosovo.

In Africa support was given to projects in the Sudan and Madagascar.

The Archdeacon of Mundri has been allocated funds to supply 60 households with goats while in Madagascar a grant has been given to USPG so that bicycles can be provided for clergy.

USPG is also the vehicle for contributing to the provision of boarding hostels for secondary school students in the Church of North India while in Romania support has been provided for the Home for Street Girls.

Today the Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh Diocesan Synod will be held in Longford.

Tomorrow RTE will broadcast Morning Service from Castlepollard where the rector is the Rev Glen Milne. The Bishop of Tuam will preach at the Howth Harvest Festival while in St Canice's Cathedral, Kilkenny, the harvest preacher will be Canon Donald Allchin, Professor of Celtic Spirituality in the University of Wales.

In Maynooth the Bishop of St Andrew's will be the preacher at a service in St Mary's Church to mark the twinning of the dioceses of St Andrew's and Meath and Kildare. The Bishop of Cork, who is visiting Finland at the invitation of the Church of Finland and the Anglican Church in Helsinki, will conduct a confirmation service in Helsinki where the chaplain is the Rev Rupert Moreton.

At Evensong in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, the Rev John McCullagh will be installed as 12th canon and certificates for the Archbishop's Course in Church Music will be presented, while in St Patrick's Cathedral the former dean, Dr Maurice Stewart, will be the preacher at the Annual Swift Commemoration Service.

In Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, an ecumenical millennium project will be launched. Following services in the Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland parish churches the congregations will join together for the launch, by Pat Kenny, of Charabanc.

This will provide a minibus with wheelchair access to transport elderly and isolated members of the community to a social club which will be run in Powerscourt parish hall.

On Monday, chapel services resume in Trinity College, Dublin, where the chaplain, Dr Alan McCormack, will be glad to welcome members of the college and visitors to the daily offices and to Choral Evensong on Thursdays at 5.15 p.m.

In Bellinter, the Meath and Kildare Diocesan Synod will be held at which the main speaker will be the Bishop of St Andrew's.

The Dublin and Glendalough Diocesan Synod will be held in Taney Parish Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings when Ms Justice Catherine McGuinness will become the first female chancellor of an Irish diocese.

The Archbishop of Armagh will institute the Rev Andrew Cous land, from the Scottish Episcopal church, to the incumbency of Clogherny while the Bishop of Tuam will conduct a Quiet Day in Beleek for the clergy of Clogher.

In Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, the Dean of Cork, Dr Michael Jackson, will give the lunchtime lecture on Cathedrals Today and Tomorrow - A Window of Opportunity?

The Cork, Cloyne and Ross Diocesan Synod will be held on Thursday. In Dublin, the lunchtime talk in the I Believe series in St Thomas's church, Cathal Brugha Street, will be given by RTE broadcaster Brian Dobson, while in St Brigid's Parish Centre, Still organ, there will be an information and discussion evening on Traffic, Housing and Rezoning.
