Sydney - As the renowned Sydney Opera House celebrated its 25th anniversary yesterday, the city tried to end a long-running dispute with the building's Danish architect, Mr Joern Utzon.

The Opera House was completed without Mr Utzon after a bitter dispute about cost overruns and artistic integrity. Mr Utzon is recognised as a visionary, but was ridiculed before leaving the project, and Australia, in 1966.

The state premier of New South Wales, Mr Bob Carr, said he wanted to reconcile with Mr Utzon, but rejected suggestions that the state government should apologise.
