A Robbie Williams concert in Dublin this evening was enough inspiration, or so it seems, for the top two Irishmen to position themselves close enough to the European Open lead, so they can mount a weekend challenge for honours at the K-Club.
Darren Clarke and Padraig Harrington will both attend the Robbie Williams concert tonight following their impressive respective rounds of 68 and 67 today.
"I will go and watch Robbie Williams tonight and now that I finally have a late Saturday tee-time, I can also watch the Lions second test in the morning," explained Clarke.
Only last week Clarke was lamenting at how, all too often, the trend of recent weeks was scraping in on the cut mark, then facing early tee-times.
For Harrington, the two-week leg of the European Tour in Ireland is proving a real tonic.
"I’m having a great time the last two weeks, absolutely brilliant. I’m off to see Robbie Williams this evening, and having a ball. It’slike two week holiday."
Putting pop stars and gigs aside for a moment and the situation reveals the man they are all chasing at the K-Club is Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg. The 26-year-old carded the best score of the day, seven-under par 65, for a12-under 132 halfway total to lead by three over Ian Woosnam and Henrik Bjornstad in second.
Clarke is well placed in fourth on his own, on eight-under, while his fellow Robbie Williams fan, Harrington, is one further back tied for fifth.
