The Belfast retrial of paratroop corporal Lee Clegg was adjourned yesterday after hearing evidence for more than two months about the shooting of Ms Karen Reilly over eight years ago.
The 18-year-old Belfast woman was shot dead when Cpl Clegg and members of his patrol fired on a stolen Vauxhall Astra car in which she was a passenger.
The prosecution claims Ms Reilly was shot by Cpl Clegg after he fired his last shot into the rear of the Astra as it sped along the Upper Glen Road in west Belfast early on September 30th, 1990.
The defence claims the paratrooper, who denies murder, fired into the side of the car in self-defence and in defence of other soldiers on patrol with him.
Yesterday Mr Justice Kerr agreed to adjourn the case until Monday, February 1st when he will begin to hear final submissions from both sets of lawyers.
