The Minister of State for Youth Affairs has accused British soccer clubs of exploitation by charging high prices for frequently-changed replica team strips. Mr Willie O'Dea TD said the kit prices amounted to "an unfair rip-off".

The latest strip being worn by Manchester United went on sale in Dublin yesterday.

Mr O'Dea said: "I am saying it's exploitation and a naked rip-off. And I am calling on parents to exercise restraint to force clubs to act more responsibly, if they are willing to do so."

The criticism failed to stem a rush for the new-look United kit in Arnotts store in Henry Street, Dublin.
