A woman and her three children escaped injury last night in a bomb attack on their house in Maghera, Co Derry, last night.

A woman and her three children escaped injury last night in a bomb attack on their house in Maghera, Co Derry, last night.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the woman was preparing to go to bed at around 11.30 p.m. when she heard a loud explosion outside her house in Drumard Park.

This was followed by a second explosion and the sound of a car driving off. The front of the house and the family car were damaged.

The woman's three children, two boys aged three and 17, and a 16-year-old girl, were in bed at the time. None of the four occupants of the house were injured.

The PSNI have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

Sinn Fein's Mr Martin McGuinness, the MP for Mid-Ulster, described the attack as "deplorable".

He said he believed the incident was linked to loyalist paramilitaries. "I am satisfied that there is no republican involvement in this incident whatsoever."
