There's nothing funny about flooding in Mozambique, but tonight's comedy benefit at Vicar St is a serious attempt to raise funds for the victims of this disaster. Jason Byrne (right), Barry Murphy, John Henderson, Joe Rooney and the Apres Match crew will use all their comedic skills to raise a laugh in a good cause, and a few surprise guests are expected to drop in during the evening. Tickets are £12.50 and the proceeds will go towards Concern's ongoing efforts to alleviate the deteriorating situation in Mozambique. Ireland's largest relief organisation has increased its emergency allocation to £500,000, and is doubling the number of staff in the devastated region. The disaster has affected about 300,000 people, with many people losing their homes and livelihoods, and many in danger of diseases such as cholera, malaria and conjunctivitis. It's no joke, but by joining in tonight's comedy fest, you may just be able to help alleviate somebody's suffering.
