A company which is building 140 homes in Co Meath yesterday secured an interim order restraining a Building and Allied Trades Union official and three other men from entering the site.

The order, which applies to Monday next, also restrains the defendants from interfering with the company's contracts for blockwork at Gracemeadow, Stamullen, whether by intimidation or otherwise.

Mr Roddy Horan, for Shenick Construction Ltd, with offices at Crumlin Business Centre, Dublin, said Mr Denis Farrell, a regional organiser with BATU, and three other men had attempted to have a sub-contractor removed from the site. Counsel said they had sought to intimidate the sub-contractor, White and Malone Sub-Contractors, with the clear objective of forcing Messrs White and Malone into abandoning their contract at the site.

Last Wednesday, the sub- contractors were asked to pay each of six men € 300 each and were told, if they did not, they would know what would happen "and it won't be nice".
