Considine insists Clare will play on

Clare manager Tony Considine is adamant his team will not pull out of the senior hurling championship.

Clare manager Tony Considine is adamant his team will not pull out of the senior hurling championship.

County chairman Michael McDonagh intends appealing the suspension of four Clare players but also suggested the team could withdraw from the championship in protest at yesterday's Central Hearings Committee ruling.

But when pressed on the matter last night the chairman said the board had yet to agree on its next move forward.

However, Considine assured Clare supporters this morning that his panel would continue preparations for the campaign ahead.

The manager said he received word of McDonagh's comments while out training at Cusack Park last night but insisted there was no consultation between himself and the chairman.

"I can assure you the players and management are definitely not pulling out of any championship," he told RTE Radio's Morning Ireland  programme.

Clare's next match is not until June 30th when they meet Antrim in the first round of the qualifiers.

"We've a tough game against a good Antrim team," he continued.  "We know we'll be down a few players but we're looking forward to the rest of the championship.

"There's no way we'll pull out.  We'll have players going to Antrim and we'll represent that Clare jersey to the best of our ability."

Considine must plan without Barry Nugent, Alan Markham, Andrew Quinn and Colin Lynch as the quartet received respective one month suspensions yesterday for their part in a pre-match brawl with Cork players in Thurles on May 27th.

Cork have yet to indicate if they'll appeal the suspension of Sean Óg Ó hAilpín, Diarmuid O'Sullivan and Dónal Óg Cusack  - none of whom were named in last night's team to face Waterford in the Munster hurling semi-final on Sunday.
