Edinburgh - The two men accused of the Lockerbie bombing yesterday failed in a court bid after claiming a newspaper report prevented them having a fair trial. Lawyers for the two Libyans had argued that a front-page Sunday Times article printed last month amounted to contempt of court.
Three appeal judges at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday ruled that the newspaper report was not in contempt after hearing arguments last week. Lawyers for the newspaper had argued that the report did not prejudice the trial, partly because a panel of three judges was due to hear the case rather than a jury.
