Cork 1-11 Sligo 0-8:  Cork are through to the All-Ireland football semi-finals following a six point win over Sligo in a disappointing game at Croke Park.

Although Cork march on, none of the teams still standing in this summer's championship will fear the Munster men.  Despite dominating throughout, they could never pull away from their opponents who themselves were far from their best.

Sligo failed to live up to the occasion following their Connacht title success.  Tommy Breheny's men were full of vigour throughout but failed to convert that enthusiasm into scores.

Sligo powered from the blocks and their approach was inventive and lively yet their hesitancy in front of the posts frustrated their supporters.

John McPartland's fisted point after three minutes should have propelled Sligo onto better things but the fact their next score didn't arrive for half an hour speaks volumes.

Cork were anything but prolific themselves yet still dominated midfield with Nicholas Murphy
soaring and starving Sligo of possession.

John Miskella's goal after 16 minutes set Cork on the front foot.  The half forward collected Michael Cussen's knock down from a high ball and finished superbly to the net.

Sligo remained eager throughout but their difficulties going forward continued.  They broke forward repeatedly but found Cork's half-back line tenacious and committed in the tackle.

Sean Davey's point just before half-time lifted Sligo supporters before the break but, again, it was only his side's second score of a dour, anti-climactic opening spell.

Cork led 1-3 to 0-2 at the break.

Sligo rallied in the second half and although bridging the gap to five points at one stage they could never get any closer to their rivals.

Cork often rely on James Masters for crucial scores and the corner forward did not disappoint, tacking over three scores to keep his side at arms length.

Sligo's quest for a goal continued until the whistle but it wasn't to be; Philip Gallagher took his late point well but it was too little too late to deny Cork their semi-final ticket.
