Gardaí in Cork have released a man they were questioning over the rape of an Australian student last week.

The man, detained in the north of the city yesterday morning, was freed without charge. A file is to be sent to the DPP.

The victim, in her mid-twenties, was beaten and raped last week by a man who had earlier had befriended her in a pub on Washington Street.
