A CORK old man is on life support system at Cork University Hospital following an inter family feud in two separate areas of the city early yesterday morning.

Mr Michael O'Driscoll, of Comeragh Park, Mayfield, Cork, was said to be suffering from serious head injuries as a result of the feud, in which a variety of weapons are understood to have been used.

In the first incident, at about 1.50 a.m. yesterday morning, Mr Philip Kahan (22) of Errigal Flats, The Glen, Mayfield, suffered serious injuries near his home and had to receive 40 stitches in hospital, it is understood. His father, also Philip Kahan, took refuge in a Garda car, which was attacked by a mob and seriously damaged.

In the second incident, at about 4 a.m. at Comeragh Park, Mr O'Driscoll sustained head injuries which are understood to be life threatening. Two gardai, Sgt Liam Frost and Garda Mall Kilroy, were confronted with weapons including knives and hatchets when they arrived at Comeragh Park. The weapons were being used by rival family groups.
