Nemo Rangers 0-14 Crossmolina 1-9
A booming point in the dying seconds from Colin Corkery helped lift Nemo Rangers to their 7th All-Ireland club football title at Croke Park today.
The Cork side, who lost this final to Crossmolina two years ago, trailed by three points during the second half but hauled themselves into the reckoning and forced a tense finish through the boot of Corkery and the cunning of Alan Cronin.
Nemo started brightly and kicked four points without reply in the opening nine minutes. But they failed to develop on that lead and instead allowed their opponents - and Kieran McDonald in particular - to carve out their own print on proceedings.
McDonald, twice, and Johnny Leonard teamed up to cut Nemo's lead to one point before Liam Murphy's well placed goal midway through the half turned the game on its head.
Crossmolina - under the management of Mayo boss John Maughan - controlled the closing stages of the half and, but for late scores from Corkery and Joe Kavanagh, would have enjoyed a healthier lead at the break. They led 1-6 to 0-7.
A Joe Keane point within a minute of the restart signalled positive things for the Mayo club, but, it was to be another 17 minutes before they found the posts again.
In between that lull, Nemo got to work and levelled the game with a Corkery free and a fine effort from Cronin, who turned his marker inside out when recording his third score.
Crossmolina edged ahead soon after with two quick points in succession - first half substitute Leonard and midfielder Gabriel Walsh with the fancy shooting.
But Nemo's deadly duo - Corkery and Cronin - both pointed to level the game with six minutes to play. Nemo were clearly playing with renewed confidence but gave their supporters cause for concern when Corkery wasted three further opportunities to win the game.
However, the big full forward soon made amends. Playing a smart piece of one-two football from a short free, Corkery unleashed a monster of a ball, from distance, to creep one point ahead. Joe Kavanagh slotted over an injury-time score to put the result beyond doubt.
