A Corkman has been sentenced to 15 years in jail after he was convicted by a jury of possessing almost €500,000 worth of drugs.

Michael Tanner, (39) originally but with an address at Inchdoney Island, Clonakilty had been found guilty by the jury at Cork Circuit Criminal Court following a six day trial in November last.

During the trial, the jury heard how gardai found €480,000 worth of cannabis, ecstasy and cocaine hidden in the boot of a car parked in an underground car park on the South Terrace in Cork in June 2004 in a space rented and paid for by Tanner under a false name.

A co-accused, James Tobin was given a five year sentence with three and a half years suspended after he pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs for sale or supply at the same location on the same date.
