'Coronation Street' star held on drugs charges

Coronation Street star Craig Charles has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug.

Coronation Streetstar Craig Charles has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug.

The actor (42), who plays cabbie Lloyd Mullaney, was suspended from the soap in June in the wake of publication of newspaper pictures of him apparently smoking crack cocaine.

The photographs in the Daily Mirrorallegedly showed him taking the drug in the back of a car during a journey from London to Manchester.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said today: "We can confirm a 42-year-old man attended a London police station on the morning of August 10, and was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug. "He was later released on bail and will return on a date in September, pending further inquiries."
