THE death of a man who was run, over by a minibus has led the Dublin County Coroner to ask the local council to investigate a stretch of road in a Dublin suburb.

Mr Eric Eble (36), of Rockview, Deansgrange, Blackrock, Co Dublin, who worked as a binman, suffered head injuries which killed him after the minibus ran over his head as he lay motionless in Rochestown Avenue, Dublin, on, April 24th last.

Yesterday, Mr Niall Murphy, Killiney Hill Park, told the court he was driving his jeep about 2.30 a.m. along the road when he spotted an "object" on it.

He first thought it was a refuse sack but when he got closer he realised it was a person lying motionless on the road. He frantically turned his lights on to warn the oncoming driver but the minibus drove over the man.

The deceased suffered head injuries.

A post mortem carried out by Dr Niamh Nolan, consultant pathologist, also revealed that the deceased had a blood alcohol level of 288 mgs and suffered severe coronary artery disease.

Sgt John Troy said there had been several accidents on that road, including the death of a relative of the deceased in a different stretch of it.

The sergeant described the road as hazardous with only one light 40 yards from the accident scene and another one 60 yards back from it.

Dr Bartley Sheehan, the Dublin County Coroner, said he would ask Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to examine the road.

The jury returned a verdict in accordance with medical evidence that the deceased died as a result of severe head injuries due to the accident.
