A plan by a county council to promote Irish will include a simultaneous translation system in the council chamber and Irish language courses for elected members in 2001.

Kerry County Council is also to issue headings on agendas and council minutes in Irish. Staff will have access to translation facilities, phrase and grammar books, and the members' expenses sheet will be bilingual.
