Wicklow County Council has said a reinstatement of its door-to-door refuse collection service, along the lines of a similar settlement achieved between striking bin workers in Bray and the local UDC, is not possible.

Acting Wicklow County Secretary Mr Michael Nicholson said yesterday that whatever the outcome of the current strike it could not include a reinstatement of the service, as the costs associated with the urban service allowed for greater economies of scale than the rural service.

The dispute has been referred to the Labour Court.
