Japan, South Korea and the United States have welcomed signs of interest from North Korea in engaging with the rest of the world.

The comments came in a statement issued after talks in Tokyo.

"In particular, they welcomed and expressed support for the outcome of the ROK (Republic of Korea) Special Envoy's visit to North Korea, through which agreements were reached on resuming dialogue and cooperation between the two Koreas," the statement read.

On his return on Saturday to Seoul from three days of talks in Pyongyang, South Korean presidential envoy Mr Lim Dong-Won said North Korean leader Mr Kim Jong-Il was once again ready to resume talks.
