A mixed-marriage couple and their four children escaped uninjured after a blast bomb attack on their north Belfast home in the early hours of Saturday.

Mr Martin Finlay, a Catholic, and his Protestant wife Alexandra, said they believed their Whitewell Road home was targeted because of their mixed-religion marriage. Two devices were thrown into the front room, where they exploded. Mr Finlay (35) blamed the UDA.

Meanwhile, two men were injured over the weekend in separate "punishment" attacks. In the Oldpark area of north Belfast, a 29-year-old man was shot in the leg at the rear of a licensed premises around 7 p.m. on Saturday. A 20-year-old man was shot in both hands and feet in the Twinbrook area at the outskirts of west Belfast, also on Saturday evening.
