The Court of Criminal Appeal will hear on February 1st appeals against the convictions of two men jailed following an incident outside Dublin's Club Anabel four years ago in which student Brian Murphy died.

The appeals are expected to last three days.Dermot Laide (22), from Rossvale, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, was jailed for four years for the killing of Mr Murphy outside Club Anabel's, at the Burlington Hotel, in August 2000. He also received a concurrent two-year term for violent disorder. Desmond Ryan (23), of Cunningham Road, Dalkey, Dublin, got nine months for violent disorder after being acquitted by a jury of a manslaughter charge. Ryan is currently on bail.

On November 23rd, the Court of Criminal Appeal dismissed an appeal against sentence brought by Sean Mackey (23), South Park, Foxrock, Dublin, who received a two-year sentence for violent disorder.
