The incident occurred near Le Fanu Park where up to 1,000 people were attending a 24-hour charity run for the Irish Cancer Society.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan condemned the attack. “This evening’s shooting is an attack on the whole community. The shooting is wrong and it is unacceptable,” he said. “It shows a blatant disregard for innocent passers by. I strongly condemn it. I urge anyone with information to come forward to gardaí.

“Local gardaí need to be fully resourced and supported to tackle the serious level of gun crime in this part of Dublin.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 6667200.
