A man has appeared in court charged with robbing a publican in Drogheda, Co Louth. Karl Nugent (21), Brickfield, Trinity Gardens, Drogheda, faces a single charge that he stole €420 cash from Liam Hodson.
The offence is alleged to have occurred at the Marsh House, Marsh Road, Drogheda, last Saturday. Evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given by schedule (on paper and not orally).
Garda Insp Brendan Cadden told Dundalk District Court yesterday there was no objection to bail being granted subject to a number of conditions.
They are that Mr Nugent lives at the address in Brickfield, that he observes a curfew between 6pm and 8am daily and that he sign on each day at Drogheda Garda station.
Judge Sinéad Ní Chulacháin granted bail subject to those conditions on his own bond of €500 with an independent surety of €1,000.
The judge was told that he was not in a position to take up the bail so he was remanded in custody with consent to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Thursday.
Solicitor Paddy Goodwin, defending, asked for legal aid which was granted.
