A man has been charged with the Christmas Eve murder of a local man at Courtown Harbour, Co Wexford.

David Shanley, of Courtown Harbour, Gorey appeared before a special sitting of Wexford District Court today.

Mr Shanley was charged with the murder of 48-year-old John Lawlor, on Christmas Eve last, whose body was found just before midnight at Red Cow, in the townland of Ballinatray Lower, Courtown Harbour.

Inspector Sean Clince said bail was not applicable in the case.

The accused man’s solicitor had no objection to a remand in custody.

The accused who appeared before Judge Patrick Clyne was remanded in Custody to again appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday.

Mr Lawlor was well known in the locality due to his connections with Courtown Hibs soccer club.
