Five arrests in Cork after incident in which two gardaí were injured

Car, cash and weapons seized after Garda cars rammed

Five people were arrested in east Cork following an incident in which two gardaí were injured, one seriously, and a number of Garda cars rammed.

Gardaí at Midleton are investigating an attack which occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday night when a two-man Garda patrol unit stopped a car at Drishane More.

Passengers in the vehicle attacked the gardaí, one of whom received a serious head and eye injury when he was hit with a rock. He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was detained for treatment. The second garda was less seriously injured.

The Garda patrol car was rammed as the assailants left the scene, driving towards Youghal, ramming another Garda car in the village of Mount Uniacke and continuing towards Dungourney.
