A garda was injured today after being dragged along the road by a getaway car when he and a colleague stopped an attempted burglary taking place in broad daylight in Co Tipperary.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for information about two men who were trying to break into a house at Davis Road in Clonmel at about 10.30am.
It’s understood they were using a crowbar to force the window of the house, which was unoccupied at the time.
They were apprehended by two gardaí who were on routine patrol and immediately got into a sky-blue Nissan Almera, registration number starting 04-D.
One of the gardaí tried to stop the men from driving away, but is believed to have got stuck between the car door and the main body of the car and was dragged a short distance by the car as the men made their escape.
He suffered arm injuries in the incident and is being treated at South Tipperary General Hospital. Gardaí have begun a search for the two culprits who are believed to be from Dublin.
They drove off in the Waterford direction from Clonmel and are both aged in the early 20s.
One of the men is described as having “distinctive red hair with an unusual-looking fringe”.
