A human skull and bone were discovered by a man walking on the Burrow beach in Sutton, north Dublin, on Sunday afternoon.

Gardaí were called to the scene after the man found the skull at about 1pm. They were joined by the Irish Coast Guard and carried out a search of the area where they also found a small bone believed to be human.

The skull was examined by a doctor who confirmed it to be human and was taken to the city morgue for further examinations.

It is believed the skull had been in the sea for a long time.
