International family law judges in Ireland
A Canadian-Irish family law conference is taking place on October 8th in Carton House Hotel, Maynooth. Senior family law judges from Canada, America and New Zealand will join Irish judges, family law practitioners, mediators and others involved in family law to discuss child representation, mediation, the Canadian Unified Family Court model and family law reform.
The closing presentation Family Law: Common Threads and Unique Opportunities will be made by Canadian Supreme court judge Mr Justice R James Williams. Register at familylaw2010.com.
Health and Safety Conference
The Health and Safety Lawyers Association of Ireland is organising a conference on "Health and Safety compliance in challenging times" on Wednesday, October 6th, from 8 to 11am in the Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place, Dublin 2.
Topics to be discussed include managing health and safety in a recession, personal liability, what to do when the inspector calls and lessons learned from recent cases. The conference is free for members of the HSKAI, €45 for non-members. Those interested should e-mail aisling.butler@williamfry.ie
Shared parenting colloquium
A colloquium on shared parenting, family violence and family law will take place in NUI Maynooth tomorrow, October 5th, in the Heneghan Hall from 7 to 9pm, organised by the School of Law and Business.
The speaker will be Prof Dale Bagshaw of the University of South Australia, who will be introduced by Patricia Rickard Clarke of the Law Reform Commission.
Certificates will be issued for two CPD points. Admission is free, and places can be booked from heather.meldrum@nuim.ie
Mental health law discussion
The Dublin Solicitors Bar Association and the Irish Mental Health Lawyers Association are holding a seminar on Mental Health Law - The Need for Change on Friday, October 8th from 9am to 4pm in the Law Society.
Six CPD points are available, and it costs €110 for members of the DSBA or IMHLA, €150 for non -members, including lunch.
Just published
The first issue of a new journal,
Local Government Review
, has just been published by Firstlaw. It contains articles on the Water Services Act 2007, Administrative Law, Nama and local authorities, local authorities and VAT, case notes and a legislation update.
