Gardaí are investigating “an act of sabotage” at Quinn Industrial Holdings Limited in Co Cavan after a number of vehicles were damaged.

A spokesman for the company has said preliminary indications were that substances, clay and silt were added to the diesel engines and anti-syphon devices of large excavation and crushing vehicles located at its quarry in Swanlinbar.

Gardaí confirmed an incident of criminal damage to machinery at Tiercahen, Swanlinbar was under investigation. No arrests have been made.

“This was an act of sabotage,” said a source.

It is the first incident to have occurred at the company once owned by discharged bankrupt businessman Seán Quinn for several months.

There had been several incidents in the Derrylin and Ballyconnell area including death threats, discovery of bullets, written threats and signs warning executives such as Liam McCaffrey that they “face the gun.”

A pig’s head was also left outside the home of a senior member of the company as part of an alleged campaign of intimidation against the management team.
