Police in the North have today charged a man (22) with possession of explosives with intent to endanger life.

The man was arrested by PSNI officers in the Shaw Road area of west Belfast at about 11pm on Thursday. Police also seized a holdall with an improvised explosive device (IED), the PSNI said in a statement today.

Police discovered a viable pipe bomb and ammunition in a follow up search in the Lenadoon Avenue area.

The 22-year-old man is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday.
