Man arrested as part of operation to tackle dissident activity

43-year-old taken into custody after search of premises in Dundalk overnight

A 43-year-old man is being detained at Drogheda Garda station following the search.

Gardaí investigating the activities of dissident republicans in the border area have arrested a 43-year-old man.

As part of an ongoing joint operation between gardaí and the Police Service of Northern Ireland, a search was conducted at a premises in the Kilcurry area of Dundalk around 1am this morning.

A man was arrested and taken to Drogheda Garda station, where he is being questioned under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Searches in the area are ongoing, a Garda spokesman said.
