Gardaí have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection to the fatal shooting of Benny Whitehouse close to his child's school last September.
Mr Whitehouse (36), was gunned down on Clonard Street in Balbriggan on September 25th shortly after dropping his six year-old daughter to a nearby national school.
Mr Whitehouse had previous convictions in relation to criminal activity, and it is believed the incident, in which his wife also sustained gun wounds, was in relation to a feud between rival factions within the area’s travelling community.
Gardaí arrested a man in Ardee, Co Louth on Tuesday morning.
He is currently being detained at Balbriggan Garda Station under the Criminal Justice Act (2007).
Officials said the investigation into Mr Whitehouse’s death are ongoing.
It is the first arrest that has been made in relation to the incident following four months of investigations.
