Arrest is third in investigation after body of musician (59) found in his home

A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the murder of Martin “Matt” Kivlehan (above) in Sligo town on Monday, August 3rd.

A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the murder of Martin “Matt” Kivlehan in Sligo town on Monday, August 3rd.

The body of musician Mr Kivlehan (59) was discovered at his home on Holborn Street in the town.

A knife was recovered by gardaí in the area. A postmortem later confirmed Mr Kivlehan died as a result of stab wounds.

Today's arrest is the third in connection with the murder. A man in his late 20s and a woman in her mid-20s were arrested by gardaí on August 3rd. They were later released without charge and a file was prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Kivlehan, who was well known as a musician, was also a skilled carpenter and cabinetmaker.
